Mondays for Francophile Film Fans

“Who goes to the cinema on Monday afternoons at 4.30 pm?” my sister huffed as she tried to catch her breath after having run from her office in order to make it in time for the movie.
Quite a diverse mix of students, senior citizens, and career people sneaking off early like herself as it happens.

'Coco & Igor' with stunning Anna Mouglalis and Danish heart throb Mads Mikkelsen is a delight for Francophile film fans

French Film Mondays
Every Monday at 4.30 pm Grand Teatret puts on ‘Franske Film Mandage‘ (French Film Mondays), a special treat for Francophile film fans. In collaboration with the French Embassy in Stockholm and Institut Francais in Copenhagen they search out some of the most interesting upcoming French movies. Sometimes a sneak preview, at other times it’ll be your only chance to see the movie on a cinema screen outside of France, as the movie is not in international distribution.
And the cinema is packed to the last seat.

Upcoming French Treats are:

Tahar Rahim (Malik) received a European Film Award as 'Best Male Actor' for his performance in 'Un prophète'

‘Un prophète’ (The Prophet)
Nineteen years old Malik is sentenced to six years in prison. He can hardly read nor write but quickly makes allies in the prison ward and eventually disrupts the hierarchy. All the time pursuing his own secret agenda…
‘Un prophète’ won The Jury’s Grand Prize at Cannes Film Festival in 2009, and is nominated for an Oscar for ‘Best Foreign Movie’ in 2010.
Have a sneak preview of ‘Un prophète’ on Monday 22 February, 2010 at 4.30 pm.

'Welcome' is a personal and thought provoking movie about love and politics

‘Welcome’
Kayani is a seventeen years old fugitive from Iraq, who wants to meet up with his girlfriend in London. He never makes it further than the French harbour town Calais, where he meets Simon, a disillusioned swimming teacher about to be divorced. As Kayani starts training in order to swim across the channel the two men form a special and personal bond.
Have a sneak preview of ‘Welcome’ on Monday 1 March, 2010 at 4.30 pm.
