Insider Tips to Inexpensive Quality Restaurants

High-quality Food in a Relaxed Ambience
Claes Bech-Poulsen usually photographs gourmet food from some of the most exclusive restaurants in Denmark. However he realises that once in a while you just want to let your hair down – or go easy on your wallet – and recommends four of his favourite restaurants, when he is in the mood for high-quality food in a relaxed ambience.
Wine Bar with Great Home-made Food
“Enomania is really a wine bar in the quiet part of Vesterbro,” says Claes Bech-Poulsen.
“They focus on wines from Burgundy and Piedmont with an emphasis on rare, exquisite bottles. Should you get hungry, while you enjoy your wine, Enomania serves great, reasonably priced home-made Italian food.”
Excellent Danish Smørrebrød
“Restaurant Skt. Annæ serves some of the best smørrebrød (open sandwiches) in Copenhagen,” says Claes Bech-Poulsen.
“Their food is very classical, they don’t try to be innovative at all but the quality is superb.”
Best Chinese Food in Town
“Yan’s Wok is a small Chinese restaurant close to Det Ny Teater, and to my mind they serve some of the best Chinese food in town. It’s a low-key place but the food is great.”
Italian Food made by a Dane
“Suprisingly enough some of the best Italian food in Copenhagen is made by Dane David Oliver Fischer,” says Claes Bech-Poulsen.
“David trained at the only restaurant in Rome with three stars in the Michelin Guide, and it shows when he serves up the pasta at his funky trattoria-style restaurant Fischer.”
