Nick Cave – A Theatre Concert

Nick Cave – The Ballad of Robert Moore and Betty Coltrane

Only knowing Nick Cave by his name and not by his music, and not having bothered to research much beforehand, I entered Danish Edison Theatre to watch the play “Nick Cave” not really knowing what to expect. A little less than hundred minutes later I left the theatre, a feeling of the chill outside air against my skin mixed with sheer euphoria from having witnessed an enthralling and truly remarkable play.

The Aarhus based theatre troupe guided the audience through sixteen of Nick Cave’s songs, having woven a spectacular blanket populated by grotesque figures and characters in the power of their instincts, with God and religion as constantly recurring themes.

It didn’t take long before I completely surrendered myself, being granted one of those rare experiences only found in theatres. I am now an official fan of Nick Cave.

Sources of inspiration

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Lots of people have asked me: ”Rasmus, who has inspired you to write such brilliant posts on the blog?”. Well, actually no one has asked just that, but I am sure that is what they really meant when they said: ”Rasmus, what’s with the nonsense you write? Say no to drugs, man.”

Although it would be tempting to list some of the great and important authors of the past centuries, one great source of inspiration has been Maddox, the man behind The Best Page in the Universe. With the precision of a surgeon he dissects so called trends of today on his website known only as:

The site offers hour upon hour of humerous reading and best of all it updates as frequently as the Avenue Hotel Blog. Maddox recaps the contents of his website simply, yet beautifully, in two descriptive sentences:

“This page is about me and why everything I like is great. If you disagree with anything you find on this page, you are wrong.”

What the iPod plays these days

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Sometimes you happen to come upon musical tracks which quite simply make you happy, leaving you tapping your foot to the beat. Sure, the contemporary superstars on the pop(ular) music stage will every so often produce hit singles which achieve such an effect, but when fairly unknown artists do so it is always a pleasant surprise.

The German artist Nneka has gotten my heart beating with her awesome track ”Heartbeat” and I sincerely hope she will stay at the Avenue Hotel next time she chooses to play in Denmark. It can best be described as R’n’B meeting Drum’n’bass and I just love it.

Go listen to it on YouTube
