The Strangas Family goes for Quality

Lotte and Nikolaos Strangas, the dynamic duo behind the gourmet pastry shop and café, Strangas Cakeaway, focus on quality, organic ingredients and ban artificial additives, a philosophy they take with them, when they eat out in Copenhagen.

Lotte and Nikolaos Strangas set new standards for cakes and desserts in Copenhagen, when they opened their gourmet pastry shop and café, Nikolaos Strangas Conditori & Cakeaway, in 2010.
At Strangas Cakeaway the dynamic duo focuses on quality, organic ingredients and ban artificial additives, a philosophy they take with them, when they eat out in Copenhagen.

The Family Passion
The Strangas family shares a passion for savoury sweets and desserts.
“I easily foresee a future in the pastry business for Sophia,” says Lotte Strangas of her and Nikolaos Strangas’ six-year-old daughter, Sophia.
Lotte Strangas  has almost a decade’s experience in the hospitality business and runs the shop at Nikolaos Strangas Conditori & Cakeaway, whereas Nikolaos Strangas is a trained pastry chef and has run the pastry kitchen at high-profiled, Michelin-starred, Restaurant Era Ora.
“Sophia loves helping out at the pastry shop,” adds Lotte Strangas with a big smile.
“Only, she gets to eat the cakes she makes herself, they are not yet fit to be served for guests”.

Quality Restaurants in Copenhagen
“Quality is super important to us on all levels,” emphasizes Lotte Strangas.
“We would rather eat out once a month at a high-quality place than five times a month at restaurants which serve food of a lesser quality or with lots of artificial additives.”
“Rasmus Oubæk is the King of Béarnaise in Copenhagen,” says Lotte Strangas of the owner of two of their favourite restaurants, Retour and Retour Steak. Both restaurants are famous among Copenhageners for laid-back, yet brilliant, service, and amazing steaks with great-tasting sauce béarnaise at a reasonable price.
Among the many Michelin-starred restaurants in Copenhagen, the couple prefer Geranium, run by ‘The World’s Best Chef’, Rasmus Kofoed.

“Sophia loves helping out at the pastry shop,” says Lotte Strangas of her and Nikolaos Strangas’ six-year-old daughter, Sophia. Adding with a smile, “Only, she gets to eat the cakes she makes herself, they are not yet fit to be served for guests”.

“Avenue Hotel is our favourite Getaway in Copenhagen”
“Avenue Hotel is our favourite little getaway in Copenhagen, and it is just 200 meters away from our house,” says Lotte Strangas.
“Avenue is truly a special place and such a peaceful place for us! We can bring our energetic daughter and not worry that she may suddenly want to walk with bare feet in the middle of the lounge… ”.
“You know what I mean – there is space for all of us at Avenue… ”.
Further to Avenue Hotel serving as their hideaway, Lotte and Nikolaos Strangas collaborate with the avenue on projects, which demand high-quality cakes and desserts, like the Avenue Fashion High Teas for Copenhagen Fashion Week.

The Strangas Family’s Spot, Offer and Treat
Lotte and Nikolaos Strangas have kindly offered to recommend their favourite spot in Copenhagen, and together with the couple we have found a special treat in the lounge bar and a special offer in the Avenue 24/7 Shop for our guests to enjoy.

Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2012 takes the City

Friday, June 29th, 2012
Copenhagen Jazz Festival works hard to expand the festival’s appeal to the general public and has introduced crowd-pleasing themes, like Jazz for Kids, Jazz from Africa and 21st Century Jazz.

Copenhagen Jazz Festival works hard to expand the festival’s appeal to the general public and has introduced crowd-pleasing themes, like Jazz for Kids, Jazz from Africa and 21st Century Jazz.

Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2012 takes over Copenhagen and Frederiksberg from 6 to 15 July as more than 1,000 concerts attract up to 250,000 visitors.
One of the festival’s trademarks is the many free, open-air concerts, enticing by-passers to join the party and enjoy high-quality jazz.

Copenhagen is invaded by Jazz
“People come not only for the memorable musical experiences but also to enjoy the very special atmosphere as jazz literally invades Copenhagen,” says Signe Lopdrup, Director of Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
“The many free, outdoor concerts around town are one of the festival’s special features and help make Copenhagen Jazz Festival the city’s most important public festival. In addition, the festival has made the presentation of jazz in unique surroundings its trademark. Thus the public is able to enjoy concerts in the best concert halls, in a disused printing plant and in the city’s streets and parks.”

Singer Naja Rosa is one of the acclaimed Danish artists who will perform open-air at the charming ‘Det Kongelige Danske Haveselskab’ in Frederiksberg during Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2012.

High Artistic Quality and Mass Appeal
“The recipe for the festival’s huge popularity is primarily based on a programme that aims for high artistic quality and renewal. It is very important for us to put together a programme that reflects the newest trends both in European jazz and in the rest of the world,” emphasises Signe Lopdrup, who considers strengthening and developing jazz’s image as part of the festival’s task.
To broaden the appeal of the festival, the festival makers have introduced a range of crowd-pleasing themes, like Jazz for Kids, Jazz from Africa and 21st Century Jazz.
