Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2012 takes the City

Friday, June 29th, 2012
Copenhagen Jazz Festival works hard to expand the festival’s appeal to the general public and has introduced crowd-pleasing themes, like Jazz for Kids, Jazz from Africa and 21st Century Jazz.

Copenhagen Jazz Festival works hard to expand the festival’s appeal to the general public and has introduced crowd-pleasing themes, like Jazz for Kids, Jazz from Africa and 21st Century Jazz.

Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2012 takes over Copenhagen and Frederiksberg from 6 to 15 July as more than 1,000 concerts attract up to 250,000 visitors.
One of the festival’s trademarks is the many free, open-air concerts, enticing by-passers to join the party and enjoy high-quality jazz.

Copenhagen is invaded by Jazz
“People come not only for the memorable musical experiences but also to enjoy the very special atmosphere as jazz literally invades Copenhagen,” says Signe Lopdrup, Director of Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
“The many free, outdoor concerts around town are one of the festival’s special features and help make Copenhagen Jazz Festival the city’s most important public festival. In addition, the festival has made the presentation of jazz in unique surroundings its trademark. Thus the public is able to enjoy concerts in the best concert halls, in a disused printing plant and in the city’s streets and parks.”

Singer Naja Rosa is one of the acclaimed Danish artists who will perform open-air at the charming ‘Det Kongelige Danske Haveselskab’ in Frederiksberg during Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2012.

High Artistic Quality and Mass Appeal
“The recipe for the festival’s huge popularity is primarily based on a programme that aims for high artistic quality and renewal. It is very important for us to put together a programme that reflects the newest trends both in European jazz and in the rest of the world,” emphasises Signe Lopdrup, who considers strengthening and developing jazz’s image as part of the festival’s task.
To broaden the appeal of the festival, the festival makers have introduced a range of crowd-pleasing themes, like Jazz for Kids, Jazz from Africa and 21st Century Jazz.

Event: Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2012
When: Friday 6 to Sunday 15 July 2012
Where: In more than 100 venues all over Copenhagen and Frederiksberg
Price: Prices vary, however many concerts are for free

Enjoy Jazz in the Danish Capital
