Whether you prefer flashy food, grandmothers’ cooking or want a bit of everything, the food festival, Copenhagen Cooking, will have your taste buds singing for joy. And remember most of the restaurants are less than a leisurely ten minute bike ride from Avenue Hotel.

Noma has just been named the world’s best restaurant for the second time in a row, chef Rasmus Kofoed won the World Championship for Chefs in January this year, and the restaurant scene in Copenhagen is buzzing with newly opened, cutting-edge eateries…
No wonder the entire city sizzles when Scandinavia’s largest food festival, Copenhagen Cooking, celebrates Nordic Food with more than 80 events 19-28 August.

Michelin Stars on a Budget
One of Copenhagen Cooking’s sure sell-outs is ‘A Taste of Copenhagen”, where some of the best restaurants in Copenhagen offer their menus at bargain prices. In 2011 all of the participating restaurants are Michelin-starred, with the likes of Noma, Kong Hans, AOC, Kiin Kiin, Kokkeriet and Søllerød Kro participating. Be ready at your keyboard, when tickets go on sale on Wednesday 10 August.

The rejuvenated ‘Kødbyen’ (meatpacking district) invites you to sample the best food the Nordic region has to offer as 30 to 40 top Nordic restaurants serve tastings focusing on local produce and food traditions (pictured: Rasmus Kofoed from Geranium).

MAD Foodcamp in Copenhagen

Sunday, August 7th, 2011
Don your wellies and join the leading lights of the New Nordic Cuisine-movement, chef René Redzepi and entrepreneur Claus Meyer, at their MAD Foodcamp, a new, hands-on festival of food and gastronomy on 27-28 August.

Don your wellies and join the leading lights of the New Nordic Cuisine-movement, chef René Redzepi and entrepreneur Claus Meyer, at their MAD Foodcamp, a new, hands-on festival of food and gastronomy on 27-28 August.

MAD Foodcamp is a new festival of food and gastronomy in Copenhagen. The festival is the brainchild of chef René Redzepi and entrepreneur Claus Meyer, the masterminds behind the world-renowned restaurant Noma and the New Nordic Cuisine-movement.
The dynamic duo aims to build a stronger community around the meal, explore the potential of food and celebrate the emerging awareness of the Nordic food culture.

MAD means ‘Food’ in Danish
The festival is aptly named MAD Foodcamp as MAD means ‘food’ in Danish, and the founders claim: “there will be more than a bit of craziness involved”. Visitors to the festival site will get to meet chefs from all over the world, eat at the food stalls, talk to a number of Denmark’s most ambitious farmers, pet grazing livestock and buy fresh, high-quality produce.

A Celebration of Food
“The MAD Foodcamp should be the straightforward celebration of food that I’ve always dream of but have not yet experienced,” says René Redzepi, head chef and co-owner of Noma.
“There is a strong demand for chefs, farmers, gatherers, researchers, distributors and food writers to meet face to face to share knowledge and inspire each other.”

Strengthen the Sense of Community
“It has now been almost seven years since we started the movement for a new Nordic cuisine,” adds Claus Meyer, entrepreneur and co-owner of Noma.
“We hope that by organizing this festival we can strengthen the sense of community across cultures and regions and give each and every participant a feeling of influence on and responsibility for Danish food production.”

Symposium with International Star Chefs
The first version of the MAD Foodcamp focuses on the plant kingdom, and will include an international symposium featuring experts from across the globe who will discuss and experiment with all things vegetable. The symposium will include reputed chefs, like Massimo Bottura (owner of Osteria Francescana in Italy), Andoni Luis Aduriz (head chef and woner of Mugaritz in Spain) and David Chang (owner of the Momofuku restaurants in New York).

Charity Dinner in Extremely Good Company
On the night of Saturday 27 August international and Danish star chefs along with celebrated artists and television personalities will co-create a sublime meal and an entertaining evening in extremely good company (namely yours). The event aims to raise money for teaching female Afghan refugees in Teheran urban gardening techniques.
The tickets for the charity dinner go on sale on Thursday 18 August.

Event: MAD Foodcamp
When: Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 August 2011, 10 am-6 pm
Where: Refshaleøen by the Copenhagen Harbour
Price: Adults: DKK 130, children: DKK 80 (transaction fee included).
Certain events may require additional payment.
Tickets: Buy your ticket(s) at Billetlugen.

Stella Polaris, the biggest chill-out event in Denmark, always unfolds in the picturesque inner-city park, Østre Anlæg, the first Sunday in August.

Mellow, Happy and Cutting-edge
Stella Polaris is one of the most popular traditions of the Danish summer. The free chill-out festival takes place in the charming inner-city park, Østre Anlæg, and is famous for its mellow, cutting-edge electronic music and its colourful mix of picnics, sun-bathers and after-parties, creating an equally mellow – and truly happy-go-lucky – atmosphere.
Previous years have seen a line-up of some of the very top names of the chill-genre, like Mambo resident, Pete Gooding, and Space resident, Steve Harvey, as well as the Danish DJ-duo Lulu Rouge.
This year will take the musical level to new heights with the celebrated musical mastermind and activist, Moby, headlining the festival.

Savour the Danish DJ-duo, Lulu Rouge’s, version of Moby’s song “Natural Blues”, remixed especially for Stella Polaris.
