Moby, the musical mastermind and activist, headlines Denmark’s most popular chill-out festival, Stella Polaris, on Sunday 7 August at the charming inner-city park, Østre Anlæg. Stella Polaris is a pleasant ten minute bike ride from Avenue Hotel.

Stella Polaris, the biggest chill-out event in Denmark, always unfolds in the picturesque inner-city park, Østre Anlæg, the first Sunday in August.
This year the celebrated musical mastermind and activist, Moby, headlines the festival.

Mellow, Happy and Cutting-edge
Stella Polaris is one of the most popular traditions of the Danish summer. The free chill-out festival takes place in the charming inner-city park, Østre Anlæg, and is famous for its mellow, cutting-edge electronic music and its colourful mix of picnics, sun-bathers and after-parties, creating an equally mellow – and truly happy-go-lucky – atmosphere.
Previous years have seen a line-up of some of the very top names of the chill-genre, like Mambo resident, Pete Gooding, and Space resident, Steve Harvey, as well as the Danish DJ-duo Lulu Rouge.
This year will take the musical level to new heights with the celebrated musical mastermind and activist, Moby, headlining the festival.

Savour the Danish DJ-duo, Lulu Rouge’s, version of Moby’s song “Natural Blues”, remixed especially for Stella Polaris.

Non-profit and Children-friendly
Stella Polaris is a non-profit event and is financed exclusively by funds, sponsorships and voluntary work. “Chill-out” wine-boxes, beer and water, as well as grilled skewers and noodles may be bought at the event.
The Children’s Workshop – a department at the national gallery, Statens Museum for Kunst – supplies artistic materials  for children to let loose their imagination, assisted by a couple of museum employees.

Event: Stella Polaris – Denmark’s biggest chill-out event
Time: Sunday 7 August – 12 Noon to 9 pm
Please note that Stellar Polaris also takes place on Friday 5 August in Odense and Saturday 6 August in Aarhus, however Moby will not be playing at those events
Place: Østre Anlæg, next to Statens Museum for Kunst, Copenhagen
Price: Free

Peter Jensen’s Muses take Designmuseum Danmark

Monday, July 25th, 2011

The dethroned ice-skating princess, Tonya Harding, is one of fashion designer Peter Jensen’s five muses selected=

The Danish fashion designer, Peter Jensen, is fascinated by charismatic women.
His fascination has lead to his collections being inspired by a universe created around a muse; a strong, extraordinary – and often quite edgy – woman.
Designmuseum Danmark celebrates the ten year anniversary of the designer’s brand, Peter Jensen, with an exhibition showcasing five of his muses.

Strong and Extraordinary Women
“I’ve had over 20 different muses since 2001. They are always strong women, some of them are somewhat surprising choices for fashion muses, and some of them have had rather unfortunate fates…,” says the Danish fashion designer, Peter Jensen.
Peter Jensen graduated from the internationally acclaimed school of design, Central Saint Martins in London, in 1999. He employed a muse for the first time for his graduation show, and when he started a fashion brand in his own name it seemed obvious to continue working with muses.
The extraordinary muses and their stories have ensured him an impressive list of international clients and a three-year grant from the Danish Arts Council in 2009. He is the first fashion designer to win this grant as it is usually bestowed upon fine artists.

Peter Jensen’s aunt Jytte from Greenland was the muse for his A/W 2009-collection.
Scandinavian viewers will notice that the soundtrack for the fashion show (set in London) features a remix of Danish soft rock-diva, Anne Linnet, emphasizing the designer’s love of strong, iconic women.

Launch of Retrospective Showcase
The opening of the exhibition will see the launch of a 300-pages retrospective book about Peter Jensen’s muses, titled “Peter Jensen &…”.
“Peter Jensen &…” is published by Åbäcke, a graphic design team which has worked with Peter Jensen throughout his career.  The book will feature in-depth essays by Emily King, Design Director at the magazine Frieze, and interviews by Susannah Frankel, Fashion Editor at British daily, The Independent.

Chef Thomas Stig loves to spoil You

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011
“To me, The Avenue Feeling means that I am allowed to make the food the way my heart desires,” says Thomas Stig, Chef at Avenue Hotel.

“To me, The Avenue Feeling means that I am allowed to make the food the way my heart desires,” says Thomas Stig, Chef at Avenue Hotel.

Chef Thomas Stig heads the kitchen at Avenue Hotel, making him responsible for your tasty breakfast buffet, the light dishes you enjoy in the lounge, and just about everything else your stomach may desire.
Thomas Stig is more than happy to let you in on why he loves the Avenue Feeling, and what makes his chef’s heart beam with pride.

Danish Kitchen is becoming Hipper by the Minute
“I got my passion for cooking from my maternal grandmother,” says Thomas Stig. “And I love the Danish kitchen, whether it’s the old school version, my grandmother made, which is becoming hipper by the minute in Copenhagen; or it’s the New Nordic Cuisine, which is winning praise internationally at the moment.”
In accordance with the Danish tradition he always tries to find fresh, local and seasonal produce.
He smiles: “You can say that we are quite fanatical about our food.”

“Most guests notice – and comment favourably upon – the fact that we bake all our bread ourselves and the little details like the homemade jams,” says Thomas Stig, Chef at Avenue Hotel.

“Most guests notice – and comment favourably upon – the fact that we bake all our bread ourselves and the little details like the homemade jams,” says Thomas Stig, Chef at Avenue Hotel.

“If We can make It, We will”
“The guests at Avenue Hotel are quite a diverse lot,” says Thomas Stig, chef at Avenue Hotel, “and we take pride in making everybody happy.”
“Most guests notice – and comment favourably upon – the fact that we bake all our bread and cakes ourselves, and the little details, like the homemade jams.”
And if you think there is something missing?
“Just ask,” says Thomas Stig, “if we can make it for you, we will.”

Mostly Organic and Fair Trade Food
“We are working towards only serving organic food,” says Thomas Stig, “but sometimes it is a difficult task.”
“We like to treat our guests, and at times the price of the more specialized organic foodstuffs is just too high, or the quality isn’t good enough.”
He adds, “The basic foodstuffs, like oatmeal, milk and the like, are always organic.”
Further to this Thomas Stig buys fair trade products, whenever it is available, and he can be certain of the certification.

The Avenue Feeling in the Kitchen
“To me, The Avenue Feeling means that I am allowed to make the food the way my heart desires,” smiles Thomas Stig.
“I trained as a waiter as well as a chef, and the emphasis on service and personality at Avenue Hotel fits my personality like hand in glove.”

And of course there are differences in vintages, regions, winemaking styles, and oak-aging regimes. One way to separate wines is into one of three broad categories: (a) wines that age, (b) wines that do not, and a third sort of gray area in which a wine may or may not age well based on various situations.
