CPH DISTORTION turns Copenhagen one big party as the festival celebrates club culture and street life 1-5 June 2011. Most of the events are a pleasant ten minutes bike-ride from Avenue Hotel.

CPH DISTORTION invites everybody to celebrate street life and club culture in Copenhagen from 1 to 5 June. For five days in a row CPH DISTORTION parties in five different neighbourhoods. Free block parties and street events from 4 to 10 pm, and Club Clash after 10 pm.

The mastermind behind CPH DISTORTION, Thomas Fleurquin (pictured to the left, taking part in communal street dining), encourages all the cool shops, art galleries and local event makers in Copenhagen to participate in the party festival.

To emphasize that CPH DISTORTION is for the entire city – and its visitors – Kids’ Distortion for the 0-6 year-olds (obviously accompanied by their parents) was introduced in 2010.
New in 2011 is Pensioners’ Distortion for people who were young in the 50s & 60s and still love to party.

Soak up the atmosphere from 2010 as you prepare for CPH DISTORTION 2011.

Kammertoner 2011 is a festival of chamber music bringing together some of the best classical musicians from Scandinavia at the atmospheric Frederiksberg Castle. Frederiksberg Castle is a ten minutes leisurely bike-ride from Avenue Hotel.

“For a long time it has been my wish to creat a festival for chamber music with the leading Scandinavian musicians,” says cultural entrepreneur Dorthe Foged.
Friday 10 to Monday 13 June her wish is fulfilled as “Kammertoner 2011″ fills the beautiful Frederiksberg Castle with some of the foremost Scandinavian classical musicians.
Among the performing stars are Danes Andreas Brantelid, Katrine Gislinge and Trio con brio. The Danes are joined by, among others, Oslo String Quartet (N), Stenhammar Quartet (S) and Olli Leppäniemi (SF).

“We Love Bikes” in Wonderful Copenhagen

As you probably know we love our bikes at Avenue Hotel. Our local tourism organization, Wonderful Copenhagen, loves their bikes too.
Wonderful Copenhagen loves bikes even more now, as they have just been awarded the prestigious Eco Film Award in Riga and Das Goldene Stadttor in Berlin for their YouTube video “We Love Bikes”.

The video “We Love Bikes” about a Copenhagener who spreads love by hugging all the bike-riders he meets on his way will surely bring a smile to your face.

The ever-popular entertainment park, Tivoli, experiences an extra buzz every Friday as popular Danish and international musical stars take the centre stage for open air concerts.
The stars and styles vary but make sure to catch the concert with the Danish pop-sensation Burhan G on Friday 6 May. Burhan G has invited his musical friend Thomas Holm with him on stage to kick-start the weekend for the Copenhageners and their visitors.

The art exhibition “WALK THIS WAY” starts at KØS – The Museum of Art in Public Spaces – and continues with a 2 kilometers walk of innovative and surprising street art in the Copenhagen suburb, Køge.
The exhibition is curated by Katrine Ring, resident Yellow Lounge DJ at Avenue Hotel, who is happy to invite you to the opening on Saturday 7 May.
